Former Olympic rower Jason Dorland wrote Chariots and Horses (Heritage 2011), a reflective memoir that addresses competitive attitudes in sports. He examines his own thought processes during and after his participation in the 1988 Olympics and shares his journey of struggling with a mindset in which failure is devastating, to developing a healthier outlook on competitive sports.

After his rowing career, Dorland coached the senior boys' rowing crew at Shawnigan Lake, BC, to four national championships. He co-founded and directed an organic and natural food company called Skeet & Ike's, and he often gives keynote presentations.

In his second book, Pulling Together:A Coach's Journey to Uncover the Mindset of True Potential (Heritage 2017), Dorland reflects on his evolution from competitive athlete to supportive coach and offers his thoughts on achieving success.
