Laura DeVries completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa in 2000 and her M.A. and J.D. at the University of British Columbia in 2009 and 2013.

First Nations protesters stopped workers from entering a housing development in southern Ontario in February of 2006, which sparked a series of conflicts known as the "Caledonia Crisis."; This protest brought the issue of land claims to the forefront and Devries encourages non-Aboriginal Canadians to change their perspective and emend their assumptions in Con?ict in Caledonia: Aboriginal Land Rights and the Rule of Law (UBC Press 2012).
