Born in Bradford, England, children's book author Alan Woo of Vancouver came to Canada at age five and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia, with a Major in English and a Minor in Creative Writing. He has written for The Vancouver Sun, Xtra West newspaper, Vancouver magazine, Georgia Straight and The Ubyssey to which he contributed a column called Perspectives. As a Chinese Canadian writer, he has also written for Ricepaper magazine. Maggie's Chopsticks (Kids Can 2012) won the 2013 Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Prize with illustrations by Isabelle Malenfant.
