As a UVic women's studies professor, Thea Cacchioni has examined the medicalization of sexuality in Big Pharma, Women and the Labour of Love (UTP 2015), having testified before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2010 against flibanserin, a new drug that was optimistically dubbed 'the female Viagra.' Her book alleges there has been a lack of science within the potentially lucrative field of female sexual enhancement drugs that will be marketed to purportedly treat low sexual desire in women. With a variety of interviews, she investigates the potential for women to become obliged to manage their and their partners' sexual desires as another burden or responsibility. $21.95 978-1-4426-1137-5
