The KVR was envisioned to keep the mineral wealth of the Kootenays from going south; about 80 years later the abandoned rail track and its many connectors keep cyclists heading west and east, as outlined in Cycling the Kettle Valley Railway (RMB $21.95) by Dan & Sandra Langford.
For walkers and hikers, much of the Trans Canada Trail uses the Kettle Valley rail lines through parts of the Okanagan, as shown in Trans Canada Trail: The British Columbia Route (Mussio $19.95). Cycling 0-921102-88-7; Trail 1-894556-15-1 (604-438-3474) [BCBW AUTUMN 2002]
