In 2016, as a conservation scientist and postdoctoral fellow with Raincoast Conservation Foundation and the Department of Geography at the University of Victoria, Caroline Fox published At Sea with the Marine Birds of the Raincoast (Rocky Mountain Books $25), an unusual, illustrated memoir that presents her life as a scientist with the natural and human histories of Pacific Northwest marine birds. Fox recounts her voyage along the coast as she documents marine bird diversity, the shifts in community assemblages and the "spectacular, often trans-equatorial migrations along the Northwest Coast." Species covered include albatrosses, puffins and cranes.

Fox lives in Victoria but she teaches marine ecology and conservation at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre, providing outreach and communications for Raincoast Conservation Foundation. Her research interests revolve around marine–terrestrial interactions, marine predator ecology and the study of human impacts on marine ecosystems.
