The Magnificent Nahanni: The Struggle to Protect a Wild Place (U of Regina 2017) is an eloquent tribute to the natural wonders of South Nahanni Valley - untamed rivers, glaciated mountains, stunning water falls, deep canyons, alpine forests and iconic wildlife like caribou, wolf, Dall's sheep, and grizzly bear. It also covers the efforts to conserve the area while enabling First Nations to continue to hunt and fish there.

The author, Gordon Nelson has received the Massey Medal, the Parks Canada Natural Heritage Award, an Award for Scholarly Distinction in Geography, and the Harkin Medal.
