Wrote "Legacy of a Filipina" (self-published 2017), a novel that examines the divide between Filipinos and the North Americans who encounter them on a daily basis. The book explores the prejudices on both sides.

One out of every three households in the Philippines includes a family member who lives and works overseas. More than 660,000 Filipinos work in Canada; 3,000,000 work in the United States.

Charles Au Lavoie completed a doctorate in Spanish philosophy, worked as a commercial translator, and later as a computer consultant. He is an author, playwright and essayist, with works published in French and English. He lives in Victoria, B.C.
