Born on August 13, 1949 in Germany, Sibylle Artz immigrated to Montreal in 1954 and moved to Victoria in 1974. She is the Director and Associate Professor for the School of Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria. She won Academic of the Year in 1998. Her work about violence and teenage girls became especially pertinent following the killing of Victoria teenager Reena Virk by her peers.
