A Geography professor at UVic, Dearden received the University of Victoria Alumni Teaching Award in 1998. He has co-authored a Canadian perspective on ecosystems that determine the survival of various species, including humans, in Environmental Change and Challenge (OUP $62.95), replete with practical advice for individuals to minimize their impact on the environment.
