With an MFA in Creative Writing from UBC, Fran Muir of Vancouver has written a novel, A Line Below the Skin ("Silence affects both the silenced and silencer.";) in which a character named Lily shares stories with her dying mother, as well as a short fiction collection, Coming to Bone.

Broken Wing, Falling Sky (Turnstone 2008) is Muir's account of the traumatic impact the medical system had on the author's mother's life, using memoir and medical records obtained through Freedom of Information.
