Critic and poet Warren Stevenson was born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1933. He has been an Associate Professor of English at UBC, retired in 1998, and has also taught in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. A poem called 'Waiting' in Then and Now (Fiddlehead, 1972) won a Borestone Mountain Poetry Award (for best poem of 1966). Two other poetry books are Serpent Upon A Rock (Ekstasis, 1999) and Serpent Humanized (Lewiston: Melen Press, 2001). He lives with his family in Vancouver and Point Roberts. He is active in tracing the history of Point Roberts and the early exploration of British Columbia.
