Born in Dawson Creek, B.C. in 1962, Connolly grew up in the Okanagan Valley. Holding an M.A. from UVIC, he wrote Dancewater Blues (Oolichan Books, 1990), the story about a young Native on Okanagan Lake who fights to save the lake monster, "Naitaka"; or Ogopogo, from entrepreneurs. He also wrote Rough Diamond: An Oral History of Shawnigan Lake School (Shawnigan Lake School, 1992).
