Born and raised in Victoria, Sister Eileen Curteis entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Ann in August, 1961. She is the author of Risk (The King's Men, 1975), Sojourner, Know Yourself (Sisters of Saint Ann, 1993), Moving On (Ekstasis, 1997), Wind Daughter (Ekstatis, 1998), Dance of then Mystic Healer (Sisters of Saint Ann, 2001) and Soul Travel (Sisters of Saint Ann, 2002). Complete with a CD, she self-published her autobiographical account of a healing journey through writing and music in Reiki: A Spiritual Doorway to Natural Healing (Victoria: Trafford, 2004 $29). She was residing at Queenswood, a retreat and spiritual growth centre administered by the Sisters of Saint Ann in Victoria. "She'll never forget age thirty-nine," Curteis writes, "the year of the monumental breakdown where she falls apart in front of God, country and everyone. It's a great lesson in humility. One day she's the principal of a school and three months later she's like a two year old who can't put her words together."
