From Herefordshire, he travelled to Canada and published Life and Labour in the Far, Far West: Being Notes of a Tour in the Western States, British Columbia, Manitoba, and The North-West Territory (London, Cassell, 1884). Thereafter he became a sherrif, justice of the peace and county alderman in England. He later wrote The New Far West and the Old Far West: Being Notes of a tour in North America, Japan, China, Ceylon, etc. (London, E. Stanford, 1889) in which he refers to Victoria, Vancouver and travels via the CPR.
