Graeme first worked in the editorial room of Vancouver Province in the 1950s. She has single-parented seven daughters. She has been involved in politcal activism for the poor; also women's issues, and zoning and noise bylaw issues in Vancouver. She moved to Whitehorse, Yukon in 1978; then to Yellowknife, NWT in 1979. She worked as a Counselor for the federal government traveling throughout the Arctic. She was the first woman appointed to the NWT Apprenticeship Board, has done volunteer work as fundraiser with Status of Women in Yukon, then for the Council for Disabled Persons in NWT and on Crisis Line. She was the first woman Executive Director of Women's Secretariat in NWT, 1984-1988. She has produced and written newsletters with various jobs or volunteer NGO's.
