George James, born in Kamloops in 1916, met his wife Viola at the Nootka Mission Hospital at Esperanza Inlet in 1945. They were missionaries and educators in Belgian Congo until forced to evacuate in 1960. Living in Castlegar, he collected and edited Congo Footprints: A Blessing to Share, about the experiences of various Congo missionaries from the 1930s to 1960.

[A West Kootenay author named George James also published a 60-page memoir called "My Fourscore Years", printed by the Trail Times in 1955.]
