Modern day hunter-gatherer Elizabeth Levinson of Victoria is the author of Getting Fresh In and Around Victoria: The Guide to Going Organic (TouchWood, 2001). She also published The Edible Journey (Heritage House, 2003; Touchwood, 2005; Touchwood, 2009), an exploration of the fine foods, farms, vineyards, inns and food producers of the Vancouver Island and some of the Gulf Islands. It received two awards at the seventh annual Cuisine Canada / University of Guelph National Annual Culinary Book Awards in 2004. She is also the author of The Victoria Guide and has written a monthly column about food, "At My Table," for Focus on Women magazine. In 2005 she was an active member of Vancouver Island's Slow Food Convivium. She became a co-owner of a cafe and a tearoom in Victoria.
