Anita Roberts' short fiction in Last Chance Cafe and Other Stories (1993) introduce a character named Anna who grows up "the third girl not born a boy" in a family of six girls with an unpredictable and volatile father. Besides writing about how women survive in a world of confused moral and sexual messages, Roberts has co-ordinated a series of assault prevention programs for women and teens, called SAFE TEEN, in schools throughout B.C.
