An English clergyman who came to B.C. in 1859, he collected information about the Pacific coast for an extensive lecture tour on the subject in eastern Canada and Great Britain in 1864. His 575 page primer (image at right) was intended chiefly for "merchants, statesmen, and intending emigrants." It's one of the earliest attempts to write a history of B.C. In 1870 he resigned his position as pastor of Congregational Church on Moseley Road in Birmingham, England.
