Having climbed for 40 years in more than 60 countries, Dr. Peter Austen of Prince George, leader of Canada’s first ‘truly national’ Everest expedition in 1991, offered humour-tinged memories of mountaineering, travel and adventure in Rocky Horrors, Frozen Smiles: The Mountaineer at the End of his Rope (Heritage House, 2000). Originally from England, Austen has lived in six countries. He has a Ph.d. in Motivational/business management. Published in 1992, his Everest Canada: The Climb for Hope (Caitlin) is the story of a heart-breaking climb sponsored by the Canadian Rett Syndrome Association.
