Sharon Stearn's play Hunter of Peace (1994) was inspired by the real-life adventures of an American widow who in 1907 led a dangerous expedition to the headwaters of the Athabasca River. She then married a much younger man and settled in Banff, Alberta, from where she ventured into the uncharted wilderness of the Canadian Rockies.
