John Rheinhold Forster was a scientist who had sailed with Cook on his second voyage. First published in German in 1784, Forster's obscure History of the Voyages and Discoveries Made In the North (London, 1786) contains some folding maps and an attempt to trace the all northerly explorations by mankind since the Middle Ages, from John Cabot in 1497 to Captain James Cook in 1776, with particular emphasis on British attempts to find a Northwest Passage. Therefore some of his material concerns the Pacific Northwest.
