While living in Victoria, she edited her father's chronicle of life inside a Japanese prisoner of war camp for a retrospective entitled Letters to Harvelyn -- From Japanese POW Camps: A Canadian Soldier's Letters to His Young Daughter During World War II (HarperCollins, 2002). Major Kenneth G. Baird served with the 44th battalion and languished as a prisoner in Hong Kong from December of 1941 to August of 1945. He died in 1957. Major Baird's journal and his letters to his daughters Harvelyn and Molly recount his ordeal and his abiding love for his family.
