With a script that incorporates English, Cantonese and American Sign Language, Quan's drama Mother Tongue premiered at the Firehall Theatre in Vancouver, directed by Donna Spencer, in February of 1995. Using the Chinese folktale about the Jingwei bird as a metaphor, Quan has her characters try to connect between different cultures and generations. The play was later published by Gordon Shillingford Books. Her previous work included a radio adaptation of Margaret Atwood's The Robber Bride, a stageplay for young audiences named The Dragon's Pearl and a CBC radio play called Nancy Chew Enters the Dragon.
