American forester George Sudworth's study of the fauna west of the Rocky Mountains has been acknowledged as a classic in its field. Much of its information was deemed pertinent to British Columbia. Born in 1864, he graduated from the University of Michigan in 1885. In 1898 he published Check list of the Forest Trees of the United States, revised in 1927 just prior to his death.
