Born in Vancouver, Peter McCart moved to the prairies in 1975 with his wife, Joyce McCart, where they, amongst other things, founded Canada's first national sheep magazine. Based in Innisfail, Alberta, Peter and Joyce McCart co-authored On the Road with David Thompson (Fifth House, 2000), a history of the Canadian explorer that serves as a travelogue and guide book for Thompson's travels in Alberta, British Columbia, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington in the early 1800s. They became interested in Thompson during a trip to Montana. A similar but broader-based survey is Jack Nisbet's Sources of the River: Tracking David Thompson Across Western North America (Sasquatch Books, 1994).
