Born in 1954 at the Haida village of Masset, Reg Davidson is the son of Claude and Vivian Davidson, as well the grandson of esteemed Haida artist and teacher Florence Davidson and the younger brother of carver Robert Davidson, with whom he apprenticed. As a member of the Eagle moiety, Ts'ał'lanas lineage, Reg Davidson started carving argillite in 1972. In 1977 and 1978, he assisted in the carving of housefronts and houseposts in honour his Florence's father, Charles Edenshaw. Reg Davidson also carves silkscreens. He is the co-author, with Jim Hart, of Haida Artifacts: An Exhibition (Berkeley, California: Lowie Museum of Anthropology, University of California, 1990). He is also a singer and dancer with the Rainbow Creek Dancers, a Haida Dance group he formed with his brother in 1980.
