Born and raised on the Coldstream Ranch in the Okanagan, Vancouver journalist Donna (Yoshitake) Wuest documented the history of one of the oldest operating ranches in Canada for Coldstream: The Ranch Where It All Began (Harbour 2005 $28.95). The ranch was founded by Charles Houghton in 1863 to provision the Cariboo gold rush and its second owners, the Vernon brothers, provided the name for the neighboring town of Vernon. Another owner was the Governor-General of Canada, Lord Aberdeen. [See Lady Aberdeen entry]
