With its alphabeticized entries on argillite, button blankets, Coppers, Dsunuk'wa (the Wild Woman of the Woods), etc., Cheryl Shearar's Understanding Northwest Coast Art: A Guide to Crests, Beings and Symbols (2000) is a dictionary-styled reference work containing 65 reproductions of contemporary artworks. Have worked at the Spirit Gallery in West Vancouver and the Whistler Inuit Gallery, Shearar, born in 1969, is a UBC graduate who became owner of the Salmonberry Gallery in Toronto.
