Margaret Bemister (1877-1984) was born in Manitoba and spent many years as a teacher on the Prairies before retiring to Vancouver, BC, at the age of eighty-two.

Thirty Indian Legends of Canada (West Vancouver: J.J. Douglas, 1973; reprinted Reprinted Douglas & McIntyre 1992) includes legends from Cree and Okanagan to Ojibway and Iroquois, this book explores the stories from tribes across Canada. Bemister originally compiled this collection from original sources over 60 years ago to remind us of a disappearing vision of the universe.
