HENDRIX, Jimi

When Jimi Hendrix performed in Vancouver as a headliner with the Jimi Hendrix Experience at the height of his fame, he said little on stage beyond "Hello, Canada," and did not mention his earlier associations with the city. At age nine he lived with his grandmother at 827 East Georgia Street and his father was born in Vancouver. Hendrix was the grandson of Tennessee-born Zenora Hendrix, of Cherokee descent, who lived to be 100 years old. Active in the Fountain Chapel church, she married stage hand Ross Hendrix and they lived on East Georgia Street from 1936 to 1952. Jimi Hendrix also spent several summers in Vancouver, staying with his uncle at 2225 Triumph Steet. [See James Hendrix entry]
