MacGregor wrote an appreciation of Scottish-born guide and packer James Shand-Harvey (1880-1968) who arrived in Edmonton in 1905. Now associated with the Yellowhead Pass area, Shand-Harvey was employed on survey crews by the the Grand Trunk Railway and Dominion Land Survey before guiding guiding Arnold Mumm to meet John Yates for an expedition to Mount Robson in 1909. After numerous guiding excursions, he built a cabin near Entrance in Jasper National Park in 1921 that is still standing.
