Born in Chilliwack, Robert Boyd lived in Alberta for 12 years before returning to B.C. His debut novel, On the Road to Nowhere (Granville Island, 2006), follows sixteen-year old Randy Watson as he runs away from home in northern B.C., working menial jobs at a feed mill and meet packing plant in Alberta and Manitoba. After years away from home, Watson finds himself in Oakalla Prison. Matters only worsen following his release, as he becomes further burdened with drugs on the Downtown East Side and has another run-in with the law.
