An instructor at UVic, Matthew Manera's A Stone in My Pocket (Thistledown Press 2006) tells of the story of Gretchen Williamson, a young woman living in the 1850s in the Ontario townships near Port Credit.

After he retired, Manera published The Strange September of Levi Pepperfield (Now or Never 2019) about a retired English professor facing loneliness and an unknown future after retirement.
