In 1965, Caroyln Foltz and her husband left a comfortable life in California to live in Bella Coola on the western edge of the Chilcotin area of British Columbia. "It was an eventful transition filled with hair-raising adventures with wild critters and sometimes wild folks," she says. "We learned to live without running water and electricity. We used an old hand-ringer phone on a party line with twenty-four others. When we moved to Bella Coola we set our watches back one hundred years."
