Susan Riley was born in Winnipeg, MB in 1946. She obtained a Journalism degree from Carleton in 1968, after which she worked as a reporter for the Toronto Star, the Montreal Gazette, the Winnipeg Free Press, as a financial editor at the Winnipeg Tribune, a correspondent at Financial Post, and finally as a producer and executive producer CBC Television, Winnipeg. Riley is currently a lawyer with the federal department of Justice in Vancouver, Aboriginal law section.
We Watch the Waves is Riley's memoir of her search to learn more about her father's death, which she unexpectedly learns was a suicide. The story follows Riley as she uncovers correspondences, old friends, and old memories.
