The daughter of B.C. author Wallace Baikie, Myrna Boulding grew up in Comox in the 1940s and the early 1950s, descended from Scottish immigrants. As a 74-year-old former teacher she wrote and published Survival Strathcona Style (Ptarmigan 2009), a collection of stories and memoirs about the people she and her husband Jim Boulding encountered at the Strathcona Park Lodge and Outdoor Education Center from 1959 to 1986 (the year her husband died). In 1986, her son Jamie arrived to help her operate Strathcona Lodge. Jamie Boulding and his wife Christine Clark became managing directors of the Lodge. "For the last thirty-five years we have had around 4,000 K-12 and university students come here for outdoor education programmes, mostly from the lower mainland and Vancouver Island," says Myrna Boulding. "The Strathcona spirit is all about adapting, surviving and making the best of a given situation." 978-0-919537-83-5 $24.95
