The KVR was envisioned to keep the mineral wealth of the Kootenays from going south; about 80 years later the abandoned rail track and its many connectors keep cyclists heading west and east, as outlined in Cycling the Kettle Valley Railway (RMB $21.95) by Dan & Sandra Langford.
