"The Canadian troops in Italy,"; writes Peter Stursberg in Great Canadian War Stories (U. Of Alberta $19.95), edited by Muriel Whitaker, "resented the way that D-Day had been 'expropriated' and applied to only the June 6, 1944 cross-channel operation. Their D-Day was almost a year earlier, the July 10, 1943 landing in Sicily.";

In his foreword, Stursberg notes that almost half the Canadian army was in Italy. The First Canadian Army was split in two, with the First Corps sent to Italy. Its final accomplishment was the liberation of Holland.
