Written by Allan Mackie, who has operated a log building school in Prince George for fourteen years, Building With Logs (Log House $16) has become one of B.C.'s most popular books since it was self-published in 1971. It has now entered its 8th printing and has, according to the publishers, sold approximately 150,000 copies. Its success has led to the formation of a husband-and-wife company that is operated from Prince George and Pender Island. "That book is really the mainstay of our efforts," says Log House's Mary Mackie, "With most other publishers it would have been long gone into the remainder bin. But because we're a specialty company, it keeps going. " Log House is also reprinting Log House Plans ($16), a companion volume which has sold approximately 30,000 copies since 1974. The company has never advertised and is almost never recognized by the North American media.
