Born in Bristol, England, Marguerite Barbrook of James Bay in Victoria wrote an autobiography entitled Sophie (1995) in which she chronicles her exploits, from teaching French in Argentina, to her job as commandant in an internment camp for Italian and German women spies and her work as a BBC foreign correspondent. Marguerite Barbrook died in 1998 in Victoria.
