Herbert Eugene Bolton's Fray Juan Crespi: Missionary Explorer on the Pacific Coast contains an English translation of Crespi's journal that he kept during his voyage with Juan Pérez aboard the Santiago in 1774--the first European expedition known to have reached the Pacific Northwest (after Juan de Fuca). Bolton was the inspiration for Greater America: Essays in honour of Herbert Eugene Bolton (University of California Press, 1945,), edited Adele Ogden and Engel Sluiter. [See also Juan Crespi entry.]
