Amy Campbell of Nanaimo is author of the self-published Brass Roots, the story of the 117-year old Nanaimo Concert Band, founded by Reverend James Reynard, rector of St. Paul's Church, in 1872. It is possibly the oldest such brass musical group in Canada, performing for the first time on the Queen's birthday, May 24, 1873. Reynard was formerly choirmaster of York Cathedral and conductor of one of the British Guard's Bands. Campbell published her book in 1989.
