Known as Ada ("mother") to generations at Alert Bay, Margaret Cook was born on Turnour Island and grew up in a Big House before attending St. Michael's Residential School. She served as linguistic informant for the Learning Kwak'wala (1980, 1981) series of language and culture materials. The CD-ROM Nugwa'am (2000) produced by U'Mista Cultural Society, was dedicated to the memory of Agnes Cranmer and Margaret Cook. They were both very involved in the Anglican Church at Alert Bay.
