Carnage on the roads caused by car accidents in Canada and the United States is a problem that costs a trillion dollars a year, claims tens of thousands of lives and results in hundreds of thousands of serious injuries. Denton's book Staying Safe on our Roads: The Small Margin for Error addresses these problems and aims to inform and educate the public and youth of the hazards that causes them. It is Denton's belief that road users cannot defend themselves from hazards they do not properly understand and that therefore staying safe on the roads and road safety education are inseparable.

Brian Denton grew up in Penticton and graduated from the University of British Columbia in Mechanical Engineering. Now retired Denton lives in Prince Rupert.
