Edmonds hasn't visited the Arctic but she writes about it in Beyond the Snowstorm (Borealis), a collection of eleven short stories about Inuit women, and in the juvenile novel Yuit (Napoleon, 1993), about a young Inuit girl banished from her home. The Delta writer says that although she loves the Arctic, she doesn't plan to travel there because she may "lose that mystery, that romance, that power of words." Edmonds was born in Malaysia, went to school in a French convent, and has lived in London, Saigon and Argentina.
