Barbara Silverman Efrat, born in 1935, edited:
The Victoria Conference On Northwestern Languages. Victoria, British Columbia, November 4/5, 1976 (Victoria: Provincial Archives, 1976; 1979). This book contains six academic papers that present the current research on Pacific Northwest Aboriginal languages. These papers were presented at the Victoria Conference on Northwestern Languages on November 4th and 5th, 1976.
She also co-edited (with W.J. Langlois):
Nu-tka: Captain Cook and The Spanish Explorers in the Coast. Sound Heritage, Volume VII, No. I (Victoria: Provincial Museum 1978). James Cook encountered the Nuu-chah-nulth in 1778 and assumed that they were all of the same tribe, however they are divided into many different nations. This book tells of Captain Cook and his encounters with the Nuu-chah-nulth.
Nut-ka: The History and Survival of Nootkan Culture. Sound Heritage Volume VII, No. 2. (Victoria: Provincial Museum, 1978). This book is a part of a two part series to commemorate the Captain Cook Bicentennial. The history of the Nuu-chah-nulth is combined with contemporary interviews with these people.
With Nancy J. Turner, Efrat co-authored:
Ethnobotany of the Hesquiat Indians of Vancouver Island (Victoria: British Columbia Provincial Museum, 1982). n combining the study of culture and the study of plants people are able to explore the relationships that exist between the two. Efrat and Turner focus on these relationships with the Hesquiat peoples in observing how the tribe uses their local plants.
