Earl Fowler published his debut collection of poems Mummyjihad (Guernica $20) inspired by an aged Indian woman put into a nursing home on B.C.'s West Coast. Beyond a culture clash, it is a cultural explosion for "Mummy." She finds most things and people in her new living space to be repugnant while she lusts after A&W chicken strips.

Earl Fowler worked as a copy editor for many years before retiring. He lives in Victoria.

from Mummyjihad

I am an old woman with few memories.
My objective always has been to be as quiet as possible.
Not to worry -- not to strive or struggle.
To resign myself.
To exercise my natural indifference.
To engage in a studied, willful renunciation.
My cup runneth under.
