Born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, on February 5, 1950, Douglas W. Greenfield, formerly of Sechelt, is a self-published writer in the Peace River region. His adventure stories reflect his experience with B.C. and Alberta provincial parks and the Royal Canadian Navy. Greenfield also writes about his love of the land and growing up on a homestead in Northern Canada. He came to B.C. in 1968.

His autobiography entitled Child of the Land depicts his formative years on a homestead in Northern Alberta and adventuring around the world with the Royal Canadian Navy. It was followed by a historical novel, A Time to Run, which is an attempt to reflect the truth of George Santanya's statement: those do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it. The protagonist leaves the Canadian prairies for Italy and Germany in 1942.
